Millenials Move Beyond Facebook [Infographic]

According to Wikipedia:

Millennials (also known as the Millennial Generation or Generation Y) are the demographic cohort following Generation X. There are no precise dates when the generation starts and ends. Researchers and commentators use birth years ranging from the early 1980s to the early 2000s.

Market Strategies recently conducted a survey of 2,011 Millenials in the U.S. to determine their preferred way to give and receive recommendations for products and services. Note that this was an opt-in survey, so the results are not necessarily a statistically representative sample of the entire generation.

The results indicate that Millenial shoppers trust social media, and “are increasingly looking beyond Facebook and turning to other social media channels” like YouTube, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.

The study found that Millenials:

  • use YouTube for learning about products
  • use Twitter to express opinions about them
  • use Instagram to post photos about the products

In addition, the Millenial generation turns to friends, family and social media when researching products and services and generally find social media comments to be “more transparent” and blogs are “usually more objective.”
